SDC expresses solidarity with people of Syria’s Suwayda

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) expressed on Saturday solidarity with the “revolutionary movement” in Syria’s southern governorate of Suwayda noting that this popular movement is a revival of the “revolution of rights.”

The popular movement is a new challenge in face of tyranny, and a proof that the revolution of human rights never ends, the SDC said in a statement.

For a week, residents of Suwayda have been staging peaceful protests and blocking routes in the eastern and western countryside decrying corruption and worsening living standards following the government decision to lift subsidies for thousands of families.

SDC called on the leaders of the popular movement to run their own revolution and counter any attempts aim to distort its peaceful path, and its demands for democratic change and for Syria to be a state of social justice, freedom, equality and law.

SDC expressed its concerns over the seriousness of the situation in Suwayda, and warned that the Syrian government may exploit the international crisis to suppress the peaceful movement.

SDC called on the international community, particularly Russia, to deter the  Syrian government and prevent it from committing any massacres in Suwayda.

The government has to accept dialogue and conclude a political solution as a key to save the Syrian people and stabilize the country, SDC stressed.
