Government forces members injured by IED in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – A number of members of the Criminal Security Branch, Air Intelligence, and Political Security of the government forces were wounded on Wednesday when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in their patrol in the eastern countryside of Daraa, southern Syria.
The patrol of the government forces on the road between the towns of Sidon – al-Naima, in the eastern countryside of Daraa, was hit with an explosive device planted on the side of the road by unknown individuals, and a number of the patrol members were injured as a result. They were transported to the National Hospital in Daraa city for treatment, a local source told North Press.
A few days ago, ten members of the government forces were injured, in the same place, when a bus carrying them was hit with an explosive device near the town of Sidon.
In a related context, the commander of a military group affiliated with the Military Security Branch was killed today, Wednesday, in Daraa, after being targeted by an explosive device.
Shadi Bajbouj, known as al-Aw, was killed after being targeted with an explosive device while passing through al-Kashef neighborhood in the center of Daraa city, local sources told North Press.
Bajbouj had worked in the ranks of the Syrian opposition before he reconciled with the government in 2018 and joined the security forces.
On January 9, unknown persons blew up al-Bajbouj’s house in Daraa al-Balad.
On June 24, 2020, his younger brother, Wissam, was injured in an attack in Daraa al-Balad city.
The residents of Daraa province accused al-Bajbouj of cooperating with the Lebanese Hezbollah and working with them in transporting drugs and providing them with protection. He was also accused of and providing information about opponents of the Syrian government to the security services, according to local sources.
The neighborhood in which al-Bajbouj was killed has a security deployment by government forces because of the presence of the two branches of State Security and Criminal Security. The city has not been out of the government forces’ control since the outbreak of the war in early 2011.
