Government military reinforcements brought in Syria’s Suwayda
SWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government sent on Wednesday military reinforcements to the center of Syria’s southern governorate of Suwayda on the back of the protests that have been staged for five consecutive days there.
Reinforcements arrived from the Syrian capital Damascus and arrived in Suwayda passing through Shahba checkpoint north of city, a local source told North Press.
Reinforcements included big buses to carry soldiers and four-wheel vehicles with DShKs.
For the fifth successive day, residents of Suwayda have been staging peaceful protests and blocking routes in eastern and western villages, against deteriorating livelihood conditions following the government decision to lift the subsidy for thousands of families.
The governorate witnessed intensive deployments of the government security forces during last few days in light of the ongoing protests which coincided with calls for gathering at al-Karama square in the city center.
