Government forces withdraw from checkpoints in Syria’s  Suwayda

SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the 15th Division of the government forces withdrew its members from al-Ain checkpoint at the entrance to Salkhad city, south of Suwayda governorate, south Syria.

“All the members of the checkpoints have been withdrawn,” North Press reported local sources.

This evacuation came at a time when  Suwayda  has witnessed large protests and popular anger for four days against the government’s recent decisions to lift subsidy on basic materials.

The 15th Division is one of the military formations of the First Corps, whose presence is concentrated in Suwayda, and many of its members are from the governorate, who joined the service under a special amnesty in 2015, which allowed them to serve in Suwayda.

A number of the division’s points are deployed in the countryside of the Suwayda, and the division’s forces withdrew in mid-November from Daraa Governorate towards their points in Suwayda.
