ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – In a forum in Qatar’s capital, Doha, the defector Riyad Farid Hijab, former Syrian Prime Minister, called the Syrian opposition to renew pledge to the Syrian people to support their issue and reach a transitional process where al-Assad has no place in.
The forum called “Whither Syria?” kicked off in Doha on Saturday morning with the participation of institutions of the Syrian opposition, centers of intellectualism, civil society organizations, representatives of the Syrian immigrants, the Syrian media and a multiple of figures.
“The forum is underway in tandem with the violence taking place on the Syrian ground. The violence of the regime transformed the peaceful protests to a stubborn status,” Hijab said.
Hijab stressed that al-Assad supporters are engaged in a desperate diplomatic battle to refloat the regime that has lost its legitimacy.
He also called for holding responsibility in order to prioritize the national interest, close ranks, unify the word of the Syrians and start a new phase where the Syrians grab all their rights from the ramshackle Syrian regime.
He also called on the Syrian opposition to renew alliance to the Syrians to make their issue “our compass”.
The Syrian opposition is now insistent, more than any time, to meet the demands of the Syrians, enhance the national identity and reach a transitional process where Bashar al-Assad and his regime have no place in.
The forum aims to estimate the Syrian status, boost the performance of the opposition and discuss mechanisms to move forward with the transitional process.
The forum will be convened for two days during which eight discussion sessions will be held. In the end, the forum will approve a set of recommendations.
