Assassinating Al-Qurayshi took 2 months hard work, Coalition to North Press

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) –  Killing the Islamic State (ISIS) emir Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi Al-Qurayshi took two months of intensive and planned work, a source of the US-led Global Coalition told North Press on Saturday.

On Thursday, the US President Joe Biden announced that ISIS leader was assassinated in a military operation in northwest Syria.

The source, on condition of anonymity as he is not authorized to give press statements, said “the helicopters that participated in the raid set off from a military base near Kobani city, northeastern Syria.”

Hours prior to the raid, local sources circulated the news of unknown helicopters landing in the military base of Kharab Isheq (formerly Lafarge Cement Factory) in the southeast of Kobani from which the US-led Global Coalition withdrew in October 2019.

CNN cited a well-informed official in the Department of Defense (DoD) on February 3 as saying “The United States coordinated with Russia to deconflict airspace to conduct the raid that killed the ISIS leader in northwest Syria, according to a US defense official familiar.”

“The US told Russia it would be operating in a broad general area of northwest Syria, during a timeframe and told them to stay out of the area,” according to the CNN.

Joe Biden thanked the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) for the assistance in killing ISIS Emir in Atmeh town near Syria-Turkey border.

The source disclosed no more information on the raid that killed the head of the hardline ISIS organization.
