Turkish power company cuts electricity as protests staged in Syria’s north

ALEPPO NORTHERN COUNTRYSIDE, Syria (North Press) – The Turkish power company AK Energy, which monopolizes electricity in Turkish-backed Syrian opposition-held areas in the north and the east of Aleppo, has cut power to the district of Ma’abatli in Afrin countryside in retaliation for a public protest against the company.

“Electricity has not been supplied to the city since last Sunday,” an exclusive source told North press.

Meanwhile, dozens of local people of al-Bab city, eastern Aleppo, take to the streets, for the second consecutive day, protesting against the same Turkish power company.

Scores of domestic people gathered near the power company building as their demands, including reducing electricity financial subscriptions and increasing hours of power supply, were not met by the company, an exclusive source told North Press.

Yesterday, dozens of people of al-Bab city protested against the same power company for increasing power rationing hours.

A local source told North Press that dozens of people blocked the road to the power company with iron cables and set tires on fire in front of the company’s building.

“In mid-January, people took to the streets protesting against the company decision to raise the financial power subscription and increasing the rationing hours.”

Discontent and rage prevailed in the city over corruption of the power company and failure of the Local Council to find solutions, the source said.

During January, several public protests were staged in cities and towns in the northern and the eastern countryside of Aleppo against Turkey and the pro-Turkey councils due to the rise of electricity financial subscription.
