WASHINGTON, US (North Press) – ISIS attack on al-Sina’a prison was brazen deadly and well-coordinated, and it was the largest attack ISIS carried out since the battle of Baghouz, in northeast Syria, said Colonel Myles Caggins, former spokesman for the Global Coalition to defeat ISIS.
“The ten thousand ISIS detainees need to have a disposition, there are needs for international system from the Global Coalition to help the SDF manage these detainees,” Caggins told North Press.
On January 20, ISIS sleeper cells attacked al-Sina’a prison, where thousands of ISIS inmates are detained, whom the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested during the years of war to defeat ISIS.
The attack was launched in tandem with three explosions in an attempt to escape ISIS inmates from the prison.
In an exclusive interview with North Press, Caggins said, nations need to make a decision on how to bring those people home for further detention or potential prosecution.
“This is what happens when you end up with ten thousand fighters on the battlefield and they are being held in old school buildings, in old factory buildings. Those are not proper facilities,” he added.
Colonel Caggins noted to the Coalition’s works in Iraq and Syria to provide assistance for Iraqi security forces and Peshmerga, as well as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), stressing that “this partnership is important because the Coalition is able to bring people together on the border between Iraq and Syria and Deir ez-Zor and Anbar and Nineveh.”
He pointed out that the Coalition and US continue to support the SDF with “training and advising and enabling” so they could capture ISIS.
The former Coalition spokesman affirmed that the partnership of the coalition with the SDF is “the best example in the world of the international community working with a local force, and that local force is being successful in major battles.”
As for the political aspect and the work of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), Colonel Myles Caggins said, “We are going to have a strong partnership with the Syrian Democratic Council and to encourage the SDC to bring in all the people from north and east Syria together to fight Daesh,” adding, “that partnership and collaboration still continues to this day.”
