Guweiran residents of Syria’s Hasakah return homes
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, families from the Guweiran neighborhood in the city of Hasakah, northeast Syria, gradually began returning to parts of their neighborhood after securing it, amid continued combing operations by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Since the early hours of the morning, some local residents have returned to Guweiran neighborhood, which witnessed military operations on January 20, after ISIS members attacked al-Sina’a prison which houses about 5,000 members of the terrorist organization.
It should be known that the majority of Guweiran residents had left their homes after ISIS attacked al-Sina’a prison which is located in the same neighborhood.
Ammar al-Obeid, 58, a Guweiran neighborhood resident, said many families have returned to their homes, while other families are still afraid of ISIS cells.
While on his way home, al-Obeid added that “the life of displacement was very difficult.”
“We are no longer afraid now, it was a crisis and passed,” he noted.
In one of the alleys near the main road inside Guweiran, the elderly Abu Amer was sitting with one of his neighbors talking about the current situation in the neighborhood, while some children were playing near them.
The 50-year-old said that he and his family refused to leave their home during the last period despite their proximity to the area of clashes.
“The past days were difficult, but thank Allah, now most people have returned to their homes,” he added.
