SDF arrests hundreds of ISIS members in combing campaigns in Syria’s Hasakah

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, military leaders said combing campaigns in the neighborhoods of Hasakah city, northeast Syria, resulted in the arrest of hundreds of ISIS members.

“A number of ISIS members who had escaped from al-Sina’a prison in Guweiran, went to the neighborhoods inside and outside the city,” North Press reported Hussein Salmo, the co-commander of the Military Council in the Jazira region.

“Our forces have begun extensive combing campaigns in Hasakah to pursue ISIS members, and so far many of them have been arrested and many others who refused to surrender were killed,” Salmo added.

Today, the security forces began combing al-Aziziyah neighborhood, and two suicide bombers wearing explosive belts were arrested, according to Salmo.

While raiding the neighborhoods, they were able to arrest hundreds of ISIS members who had escaped from prison. They also arrested some other ISIS sleeper cells who were former wanted men by SDF.

“Since the beginning of the combing operations, more than a hundred members of ISIS cells have been arrested, and quantities of weapons they owned, were confiscated,” Said Baran Zagros, commander of a commando unit affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which was combing al-Aziziyah neighborhood.

The combing operations will continue until the arrest of all the ISIS members who have escaped from the prison plus the arrest of wanted people by SDF, he told North Press.
