Asayish provide passage for UN aid to Syria’s Hasakah

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, the Internal Security Forces on North and East Syria (Asayish) in cooperation with the US-led Global Coalition provided a safe passage for humanitarian aid to the neighborhoods surrounding al-Sina’a prison in the Guweiran neighborhood of Hasakah city, northeast Syria.

The Asayish plus forces of the Global Coalition secured the way for the arrival of 28 trucks of UN humanitarian aid to neighborhoods in the city of Hasakah, which is still witnessing clashes between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and ISIS members, special sources told North Press.

This came in tandem with the return of displaced families from Guweiran neighborhood to their homes after the SDF announced the control of the al-Sina’a prison, amid the continuation of the combing campaign and the pursuit of ISIS cells.

On January 20, the al-Sina’a prison, which houses thousands of ISIS detainees, was attacked by ISIS sleeper cells. The attack was preceded by explosions in an attempt to take out ISIS inmates.

The clashes between the SDF backed by the Coalition and ISIS members caused a mass displacement of residents of the neighborhoods of Guweiran, al-Zohour, al-Nashwa, and Villat al-Humr to the central and northern neighborhoods of Hasakah.

After seven days of clashes, the SDF announced on January 26 that it had taken control of the prison, while about 90 members of ISIS are still holed up in the northern part of the prison, refusing to surrender to the SDF that is besieging the place, according to the SDF Media Center.
