QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – US Special Envoy to Syria John Godfrey and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State (DAS), Ethan A. Goldrich stressed, on Friday, their commitment to defeating the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) in northeast Syria.

This came in a virtual meeting held by the US Special Envoy to Syria, John Godfrey, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State (DAS), Ethan A. Goldrich, with commanders of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC).

The two parties touched on the persistent efforts to defeat ISIS in northeast Syria.

The US delegation stressed their commitment to maintaining the partnership with the SDF until ISIS is defeated.

The meeting took place following the latest attack by ISIS members on al-Sina’a prison in Hasakah, northeast Syria, in an attempt to break their fellow inmates from the prison.

After regaining control over the prison, on Wednesday, and forcing about 3,500 ISIS detainees, who engaged in the riot, to surrender, the SDF began a “precise combing campaign” in addition to launching a security and military inspection in the prison wings in which ISIS members, who attacked the prison, holed up.

The combing operation are continuing in the vicinity of al-Sina’a prison in addition to Guweiran neighborhood, south of Hasakah.
