Landmine explosion claims life of farmer in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, one civilian died when a landmine, left by the Islamic State Organization (ISIS), detonated in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
The 55-year-old Khalifa al-Zayed lost his life as a landmine, left by ISIS, detonated while collecting firewood in his land, Ahmed al-Faysal, a resident of Hajin city, 110 km east of Deir ez-Zor, said.
Al-Zayed’s family was with him when the explosion occured, al-Faysal said.
Explosive remnants of war threaten residents in different areas in Syria, including the east villages and towns of Deir ez-Zor where former battles took place.
On December 2021, two brothers were injured when an unexploded ordnance detonated in the town of Baghouz, east of Deir ez-Zor.
