ISIS sneak attempt to Iraq’s Shingal foiled
ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – On Wednesday, the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), also known as al-Hashd al-Shabi, announced it foiled an attempt by the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) militants to cross illegally to Shingal district (Sinjar) northwest Iraq.
The PMF released a statement saying, “in the early hours on Wednesday, Sinjar forces within the Command of Nineveh Operations in the PMF have thwarted a penetration attempt by ISIS militants in the south of Sinjar adjacent to the Syrian border.”
The security forces opened fires on ISIS militants who fled to unknown places.
The event comes in the wake of ISIS sleeper cells attack on al-Sina’a prison in Hasakah city, northeastern Syria, and ISIS militants attacks on Diyala province in Iraq almost a week ago. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) supported by the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS and the Iraqi Forces are still hunting ISIS militants.
