Tribal dignitaries in Syria’s Hasakah call for confronting ISIS
SHADDADI, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, notables of Arab tribes in the town of Shaddadi, south of Hasakah, northeast Syria, called for the people of the region to unite in the face of the threat of the Islamic State (ISIS).
They also called on the international community to solve the issue of prisons in northeast Syria that house ISIS members.
ISIS members in prisons of northeast Syria have become a huge burden to the Autonomous Administration after their countries abandoned them, Anan al-Ass’ad, one of the notables of al-Jubour tribe in Shaddadi, told North Press.
He believed that the solidarity of the people of the region is enough to maintain stability and confront the threat of ISIS.
On January 20, ISIS sleeper cells members attacked al-Sina’a prison, which houses about 5,000 ISIS detainees, in an attempt to take out the prisoners.
The international community and the Global Coalition should contribute to maintaining the security and stability of the region and provide support to fortify the prisons that pose a threat to the residents of the region, he added.
Muhammad Rawi, one of the notables of Rawi tribe in Shaddadi, believes that the Hasakah attack is an attempt to “revive ISIS”.
This attempt would not have taken place without the support of several parties to ISIS cells, with the aim of destabilizing the security and stability of the region.
