People fleeing Hasakah’s prison clashes helped by local efforts: AANES

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The aid given to the displaced people from the surrounding area of al-Sina’a prison in Hasakah’s Guweiran neighborhood is simple and with only local efforts, an official of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Monday.

Thousands of people have been displaced from the surrounding area of al-Sina’a prison due to the battles between SDF and ISIS sleeper cells since January 20.

The displaced people fleeing the Guweiran prison clashes “have not found the required level of response from relief organizations,” said Farhad Hamo, co-chair of the Organizations Affairs Office.

“What is provided to the displaced people is through local community efforts of the residents of the neighborhoods surrounding Guweiran prison and other neighborhoods of the city of Hasakah,” Hamo added.

“The numbers stated by the Syrian government regarding the displacement of 45,000 people going to the Security Square are overstated and incorrect,” Hamo told North Press.

The security measures and clashes in the vicinity of the prison hinder the urgent provision of aid to the displaced people there, said Khaled Ibrahim, head of the Organizations Affairs Office in the Jazira region.

Some families have sought refuge with their relatives or acquaintances since the start of the clashes for fear of the threat of ISIS, Ibrahim told North Press.
