Human shields by ISIS hinders controlling situation in Syria’s Hasakah, SDF

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State Organization (ISIS) sleeper cells are using the civilians as human shields which hinders our forces’ advancement to end the security unrest, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) official spokesperson Aram Hanna said on Saturday.

The clashes with ISIS militants are still going on in the vicinity of al-Sina’a prison, Hanna told North Press.

He pointed out that by continuing the clashes, ISIS intends to send a message to their peer detainees inside the prison to continue riot and try to escape.

The SDF spokesperson accused what he named “regional parties” of supporting terrorism.

He considered that the ISIS sleeper cells get benefit of Turkey and its-backed Syrian opposition factions controlling Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad north and northeast Syria.

They also get benefit of the fact not being pursued in areas under the control of the Syrian government forces, according to Hanna.

Hanna indicated that such circumstances result such attacks, as these incidents coincide with Turkey’s violation of the ceasefire agreement at the frontlines in northeastern Syria.

The SDF spokesperson did not define a timetable regarding the re-control of al-Sina’a prison and the surrounding areas completely.

He justified that by taking measures for protecting civilians.
