Area surrounding al-Sina’a prison in Syria’s Hasakah witnesses intermittent clashes
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Clashes between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) militants have been continuing in the area surrounding al-Sina’a prison in Guweiran neighborhood in Hasakah city, northeast Syria, for over 22 hours following an attempt by ISIS militants to break into the prison.
“The surrounding area of al-Sina’a prison is still witnessing intermittent clashes between SDF fighters and ISIS sleeper cells,” North Press correspondent said.
These clashes are coinciding with flight by the aircrafts of the US-led Global Coalition over the area launching airstrikes against ISIS militants on the outskirts of the prison.
A group of ISIS sleeper cells tried, yesterday evening, to break into the prison, where ISIS militants of different nationalities are detained, in Guweiran neighborhood through exploding a VBIED in the vicinity of the prison.
Meanwhile, members of ISIS sleeper cells targeted the guards of al-Sina’a prison, as a result of which two guards were wounded, North Press correspondent quoted a security source.
The General Command of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) imposed, on Friday, a total curfew on the city of Hasakah, and blocked entry and exit to the city against the backdrop of security developments in al-Sina’a prison.
