Turkish practices in Afrin threaten Syrian national identity, Future Syria Party
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Turkification policy practiced by Turkey in Afrin region, north Syria, and the areas under its control threatens the Syrian national identity, the Future Syria Party said on Thursday.
The Future Syria Party issued a statement in its headquarters in Raqqa, condemning the continued occupation of Turkey and the affiliated opposition factions of Afrin.
On January 20, 2018, Turkish armed forces and the Turkish-backed Syrian armed opposition factions invaded Afrin region under the name of “Olive Branch Operation” which resulted in the Turkish control of the region after 58 days of fierce clashes.
Turkey’s occupation of parts of the Syrian territories hinders the political solution and territorial integrity in Syria, Ibrahim al-Qaftan, head of the Future Syria Party, said.
“The Turkish-backed armed factions committed and they are still committing war crimes against women, children and the elderly in Afrin,” he added.
Al-Qaftan considered that the indigenous people of Afrin who preferred to stay in the region and not to leave despite the violations committed against them, is a heroic stance that all Syrians value.
