SDC receives delegation of Afrin IDPs in Syria’s Hasakah

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Marking the fourth anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Afrin region, north Syria, the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) received a delegation of the Afrin IDPs in the city of Hasakah, northeast Syria, on Thursday.

The SDC reiterated the need to end the Turkish occupation and stop the systematic crimes and violations taking place in Afrin. It also demanded the safe and dignified return of Afrin IDPs.

Ways and possibilities of the return of the residents of Afrin, the Turkish violations of the region plus the conditions of the residents of Shahba region (villages in Aleppo northern countryside where Afrin IDPs take shelter in) and the means of delivering humanitarian aid to them were all discussed in the meeting.

The attendees called on the international community and the countries involved in the Syrian issue to assume their legal and moral responsibilities to end the ongoing catastrophe in Afrin and stop the suffering of its forcibly displaced residents.

They also stressed the need to end the atrocities committed in Afrin by Turkish-backed opposition factions and bring the perpetrators to justice.

On January 20, 2018, Turkish forces and their affiliated Syrian armed opposition factions invaded Afrin and targeted it with ground and aerial bombardment.
