Russian Military Police meet most wanted man in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – A Russian military patrol arrived in the eastern countryside of Daraa, south Syria on Wednesday to negotiate with a wanted man by Syrian government. The man had refused to reconcile with the government forces. 

Russian Military Police (MP) arrived in a farm located between the town of Nahtah and the city of al-Harak in the eastern countryside of Daraa to meet with Ismail Shukri al-Mafaalani, one of those who rejected the settlement agreements, local sources told North Press.

According to the sources, the meeting was attended by a number of pro-al-Mafaalani people plus Russian officers. No results were announced about the meeting.  

The Russian officers demanded that al-Mafaalani stop carrying out killing operations against members of the government forces and the people cooperating with them, according to the source. 

The government forces launched a military operation on November 24, against al-Mafaalani on the outskirts of the town of Nahtah. Two of his members were killed and his brother was injured and arrested. Al-Mafaalani himself was injured by he managed to escape. 

Al-Mafaalani is one of the most wanted men by the government forces as they accuse him of carrying out operations against security and military checkpoints in the eastern region of Daraa.
