Russia strikes Syria’s Idlib amid mutual shelling between government forces and opposition

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, Russian warplanes launched airstrikes on Syrian opposition forces sites in the countryside of Idlib, northwest Syria.

Meanwhile the Syrian government forces and opposition forces resumed heavy mutual bombardment in the area.

The Russian warplanes launched four airstrikes on Syrian opposition forces near al-Bara town in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, a military source form the opposition told North Press.

The Syrian government forces escalated artillery shells and rocket launchers on strongholds of the opposition forces in the areas of Sfuhen, Kansafra, al-Bara, Fatterah, Fleifel, Deir Sunbul, Benin and Kafr Oweid.

Also, the Syrian government forces stationed in Jurin Camp targeted the opposition forces sites in the village of Qahira and the outskirts of al-Enkawi in the Gab Plain area, west of Hama.

Al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room announced launching scores of artillery shells and rocket launchers on Syrian government forces stationed in the two cities of Kafr Nabl and Saraqib, the villages of Khan Sebl, Dadikh, al-Milajah and Hazarin southeast of Idlib, and in the town of Urum al-Sughra west of Aleppo and the vicinity of Jabal al-Akrad, north of Latakia.

In the last 24 hours, the Syrian government forces and opposition factions escalated the military actions and mutual bombardment accompanied by Russian airstrikes.

For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
