Resents of Syria’s north take to streets rejecting government settlements

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Residents of the city of Tabqa, north Syria, took to the streets, on Friday, rejecting the participation in the settlements that the Syrian government is talking about.

Days ago, media outlets close to the government publicized news about launching settlements for people of Raqqa in Sabkhah town, 30 kilometers southeast of Raqqa.

The protest, which was organized by activists and residents of city, began from al-Horyya park to the Church Roundabout in the center of the city.

“This protest was organized to deliver a clear message in the name of the people of the areas showing their rejection of these settlements,” the civil activists from Tabqa city, Ali Younes, said.

The protest was organized under the slogan “Reconciliation is a betrayal to martyrs blood,” showing the residents’ rejection to the government settlements, according to Younes.

“The protest stressed the principles of the revolution of the Syrian people in toppling the regime and building democratic Syria,” he told North Press.

“Residents of areas in northeast Syria including Tabqa see that the Syrian government as a criminal that contributes to killing and displacing millions of Syrians and destroying Syria,” he noted.

On Tuesday, sheikhs and dignitaries of tribes of Raqqa released a statement in which they reject the settlements that the Syrian government is calling for.
