Child Protection Office in Syria’s Hasakah hands over a minor
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Child Protection Office is continuing getting minors, who joined military units, back to their families, Khaled Jabr, co-chair of the Child Protection Office in Armed Conflicts in Hasakah, northeast Syria, said on Thursday.
“The Child Protection Office in Hasakah handed over the minor Sama Kaddo (16) to her family,” he added.
“We are continuing to disengage the minors from the military formations under the UN and international laws on keeping children away from military actions,” Jabr told North Press.
Sama’s family had earlier called, through media outlets, the officials in the Autonomous Administration, for getting her daughter back.
Yesterday, the family posted on social media a thank you card to everyone who cooperated with them to bring their daughter back to her family.
In cooperation with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the Child Protection Office in Hasakah disengaged the minor, Usama al-Hussein, 14, from the military forces and handed him to his family on January 9.
The Child Protection Office were founded in 2020 in all cities across northeast Syria. A step followed an agreement signed by the SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi with the United Nations to prevent the recruitment of underage children or involve them in armed conflicts.
