Northwest Syria witnesses shelling between government and opposition
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria witnessed military escalation and mutual shelling between the Syrian government forces and the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions.
The government forces bombed the opposition factions’ sites in the towns of Kansafra, al-Bara, Fatterah, Fleifel, Sfuhen and al-Mozarah in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, with heavy artillery and missiles, opposition military sources told North Press.
Similarly, the opposition factions’ sites near the towns of Ma’arat al-Na’asan and Afes, north and east of Idlib, in addition to the town of al-Enkawi, west of Hama, were also bombed with heavy artillery by the government forces.
The government bombing of the opposition’s sites came in tandem with intense flight of Russian drones over the targeted areas, without reports of casualties, according to the same sources.
Meanwhile, al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room bombed the military points of the government forces near Urum al-Kubra town in the western countryside of Aleppo, with heavy artillery and missiles, the sources said.
The government forces’ sites near the town of Kafr Batikh, east of Idlib, were also bombed by al-Fateh al-Mubin, according to the sources.
Recently, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
