Pro-Turkey Military Police arrest two people in Syria’s Afrin
ALEPPO NORTHERN COUNTRYSIDEI, Syria (North Press) – In light of its ongoing violations against the residents of the area, the Turkish-backed Military Police faction arrested two residents of Afrin countryside north of Aleppo, northern Syria, yesterday.
North Press reported an eyewitness saying members of the Military Police arrested Abdin Brim, 40, and Muhammad Omar, 45, from Mamala village north of Afrin, on charges of working in the institutions of former Autonomous Administration.
The arrested people were accused against them is that going on night watchkeeping shifts during the previous period of the Autonomous Administration’s presence.
On January 8, members of the Turkish-backed Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction arrested a young man called Ahmad Abdo, 25, from Bahdina village in the countryside of Afrin, on charge of dealing with the Autonomous Administration previously.
The Violations Documentation Center in Northern Syria (VDC-NSY) has documented the arrest of six people in the countryside of Afrin by Turkish-backed opposition factions since the beginning of this January.
In its annual report for the past year, the Center documented 8,179 arrests since the beginning of the Turkish incursion into north Syria. About 5,430 of them were released, while the fate of the rest is still unknown.
The city of Afrin and its villages, north of Aleppo, have been controlled by Turkish forces and the affiliated factions since March 2018.
Since then, the region has been witnessing ongoing security chaos accompanied by infighting among militants of the Turkish-backed factions, arrests, and kidnappings amid the factions’ disability to settle the security and spread safety.
