Government’s reconciliation aims at demographic change in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor, activists
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – In a seminar under the title “Blood Reconciliation and al-Assad Trap,” activists of the Sons of al-Bukamal Gathering, east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, said yesterday the goal of the settlements made by the government in Deir ez-Zor is demographic change.
The Sons of al-Bukamal Gathering, a political grouping in Deir ez-Zor, organized a seminar to discuss the latest political developments undertaken by the Syrian government in Deir ez-Zor.
“The goal of the settlements made by the Syrian government is demographic change,” Inad al-Jallo, the official spokesman for the Sons of al-Bukamal Gathering, told North Press.
The settlements made by the Syrian government in Deir ez-Zor target the social fabric in the region, Amina Ossi, the co-chair of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration, said on January 6.
“The Damascus government has tried and is still trying to destabilize the areas run by the Autonomous Administration, and settlements are one of these attempts,” Ossi added.
“Russia is trying, through reconciliation, to show that al-Assad has won the war which according to Russia is about to end, and that the refugees are able to return to their homes,” al-Jallo said.
“However, such allegations are unrealistic and premature,” he added.
“The track of reconciliation does not reduce violence and does not pave the way for a sustainable solution to the Syrian crisis, but rather it increases Iran’s influence in the region and fuels local conflicts,” al-Jallo noted.
“The spread of rumors and psychological warfare carried out by the Syrian government and the field events represented by the entry of Russian forces, which were viewed by the residents of Deir ez-Zor as the first stages of entering the Syrian government, as well as the American withdrawal from Afghanistan, have reinforced the fears of the residents of Deir ez-Zor that there will be a scenario similar in northeast Syria,” Muhammad Shaker, head of the Independent Arab Movement (al-Mustaqel), a political gathering, said.
“The Syrian government has exploited all those above matters through reconciliation,” he added.
Three months ago, local residents in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor prevented Russian forces from entering their villages while heading to their positions in Raqqa.
“The goal of the reconciliation made by the government is to prove to the world that it controls the security and administrative files in Deir ez-Zor,” Anas al-Marfou’, the representative of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) in Deir ez-Zor, said.
On January 8, Muhammad al-Rajab, head of the Future Syria Party in Deir ez-Zor, called to face the conspiracy by the Syrian government represented in the settlement process currently underway in the city.
Media close to the Syrian government is promoting settlement operations in Deir ez-Zor and continuously publish reports about hundreds of people who reconciled with the government.
In mid-November, the official Syrian news agency, SANA, announced the start of a comprehensive reconciliation procedure for the people of Deir ez-Zor ” whose hands are not stained with Syrians’ blood,” as it described it.
