Turkish shelling threatens our educational future, Syria’s Kobani university students

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – The frequent Turkish shelling of Kobani threatens our educational future, students in Kobani University said on Tuesday.

On January 8, the Turkish shelling of nine areas in Kobani claimed the life of one civilian and wounded 11 others, and amputated the leg of a 4-year-old chlid. Huge material damage was also reported.

The students released a statement under the initiative “the Future Talks”. The students read their statement in front of the hospital in Kobani.

After that, the students visited the little boy Abdo Hanifi in the hospital. Hanifi was wounded in the Turkish shelling and one of his leg was amputated.

He has not completed the age of four yet.

Ahin Shahin, a student at the University of Kobani and member of “the Future Talks” initiative, told North Press that the Turkish assaults affect the civilians in the city and students of the University of Kobani. “The Turkish assaults obstruct us from completing our study.”

On June, 2021, students in the University of Kobani launched the initiative “the Future Talks” tasked to document violations the Turkish forces commit against the Kurds.

The initiative aims to let the students have a prominent role in combating fascism and discrimination on basis of religious, gender and nationalism and all kinds of power.
