Iran to renovate Damascus International Airport

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Following Israeli raids in mid-December last year, which caused it to be out of service since then, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) completed preparations to start renovating a runway at Damascus International Airport yesterday.

On December 16, 2021, Israel launched raids on Syria, and the Syrian government said it targeted the southern region of the country, which resulted in the killing of one soldier as well as material damage.

Days after the raid, Russian media published an American report saying the recent Israeli raids on Syria had damaged one of the runways at Damascus International Airport.

Media reports said the restoration is a continuation of what Iran started in September 2021. The runway was supposed to enter service before the end of 2021, but the Israeli airstrike took it out of service again.

According to the media reports, the IRGC is directly supervising the rehabilitation of the runway to be used as a main runway for large-sized cargo planes in order to transport weapons and ammunition.
