Northwest Syria witnesses shelling between government and opposition
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria witnessed military escalation and mutual shelling between the Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed opposition factions.
The sites of the opposition factions in the towns of Fatterah, al-Bara, Kafr Oweid and Fleifel in the Zawiya mountain area, south of Idlib, were bombed with heavy artillery and missiles by the government forces, opposition military sources told North-Press.
The bombing came in tandem with intense flight of Russian drones over the targeted areas. No casualties were reported, according to the same sources.
Meanwhile, al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room bombed on Sunday evening the government forces’ sites near the cities and towns of Ma’arat al-Numan, Kafr Nabl and al-Malajah, south of Idlib,” the sources said.
The government forces’ sites near the towns of Khan al-Sabil and Dar al-Kabira in the Zawiya Mountain area, were also bombed by al-Fateh al-Mubin, according to the same sources.
Recently, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
