Child Protection Office in Syria’s Hasakah hands over a minor
head of Hasakah-based Child Protection Office in Armed Conflicts said it handed over aminor from the army forces to his family.
“We are continuing in handing over children and minors who were recruited earlier to the army forces,” Jabr added.
“We are working in line with the United Nations resolutions and all international laws which stipulate that no child shall take part in any military actions.”
On Sunday, the child Usama al-Hassan, 14, was handed over to his family. The handing over took part in participation with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Jabr noted.
Since its foundation 14 months ago, the Child Protection Office in Hasakah, had returned 219 minors to their families.
The total toll of the demobilized children by all child protection offices in northeast Syria has reached 621 minors.
Since the beginning of 2022, three minors have been reunited with their families, according to official statements by the Autonomous Administration.
Regarding the reason behind joining the army forces, Jabr pointed out that the countless pressures the children undergo at home or outside drive them to join the army.
Child Protection Office were founded in 2020 in all cities across northeast Syria. A step followed an agreement signed by the SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi with the United Nations to prevent the recruitment of underage children or involve them in armed conflicts.
The SDF with authentication of AANES signed a joint work plan with the UN concerning the elimination of child recruitment.
The SDF adheres to the commitment and prevent enlisting the children in the ranks of the SDF.
On January 3, the Child Protection Office handed over two minors to their families in the city of Hasakah.
