National Defense Forces militants killed in attack in central Syria

PALMYRA, Syria (North Press) – Five militants of the pro-government National Defense Force (NDF) including a leader killed, on Friday, in a missile attack by unknown individuals in Palmyra desert, east of Homs, in central Syria.

During the attack, five NDF militants were killed including the leader Abdulkarim al-Hawwat in addition to setting a car on fire, according to a source.

The attackers, who were riding motorbikes, did not raise any banners that represent their affiliation with any faction and then they ran away towards the depth of the desert, the source added.

The Syrian government forces and pro-Iranian factions run vast swathes of the Syrian desert that has recently witnessed several battles between the government forces and pro-Iranian factions on one hand and the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) on the other.

In early January, more than ten militants of the Iranian-backed factions were killed and wounded in a drone attack targeting their sites in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
