Airstrikes kill, wound Iranian-backed members in Syria’s Deir-ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, airstrikes from unidentified aircrafts killed five militants of Iranian-backed factions and wounded some others by bombing a warehouse of weapons and ammunition of the factions in a town, east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

An unknown aircraft, likely to be of the US-led Global Coalition, bombed a depot for ammunition and weapons of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Crops (IRGC) near al-Rahbi Castle, south of the city of al-Mayadin, with several missiles, a military source from the government forces in the town of al-Mayadin, 40 km east of Deir ez-Zor, said.

The airstrikes resulted in the killing of five members and wounding of two, including non-Syrian nationals, in addition to destroying weapons and ammunition, the source, who declined to be named, added.

Iranian-backed factions and government forces have controlled large areas of Deir ez-Zor since the expulsion of ISIS militants in late 2017.

Earlier today, eight rockets targeted the Global Coalition forces base in al-Omar, Syria’s largest oil field, 100 km east of Deir ez-Zor city, launching from areas west of al-Mayadin and Thiban, 60 km east of Deir ez-Zor.
