Russian aircrafts bomb opposition-run areas in Syria’s northwest

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Russian aircrafts escalated targeting the Turkish-backed opposition factions-held areas in the countryside of Idlib and Aleppo, northwest Syria on Thursday, whereas the government forces continued bombing the same region.

The Russian aircrafts conducted several airstrikes on the Jabal al-Sheikh Barakat and the outskirts if the city of Darat Izza in Aleppo western countryside, North Press reported military sources.

The outskirts of the city of Ma’arat Misrin and the towns of Kafr Daryan and al-Sheikh Bahr, north of Idlib, were bombed by the Russian aircrafts, according to the sources.

The sources described the raids as the most violent ever for more two months, and they coincided with flying the Russian drones over Idlib, Aleppo and Hama.

Meanwhile, the opposition factions’ sites in Kafr Amma and Tedil in west of Aleppo, and Jabal al-Akrad, north of Latakia, were bombed by the government forces using heavy artillery and missiles, local sources told North Press.

A week ago, Russian aircrafts sporadically bombed the  opposition-run areas in several regions in the countryside of Idlib and Aleppo, northwest Syria, after relative calm that lasted for a few days.

For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
