Kurdistan region of Iraq investigates raising ISIS banner in Erbil

ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – On Thursday, the security forces of Iraq Kurdistan region started an investigation in raising ISIS banner on one of the hills in north of Erbil.

The ISIS banner on a hill in Shaqlawa area, north of Erbil was noticed in some posted videos and photos.

The ISIS banner was held on Sorik hill nearby Saberawa neighborhood that it is far from the residential areas, the kaymakam of Shaqlawa said in a statement.  

“The security forces started investigating about that and there is no statement from security authorities until now,” he added.

Earlier in December, the security forces in KRG announced the capturing of an ISIS sleeper cell.  

In November, there were a series of attacks on some villages and military bases in south of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah governorate by ISIS, where more than 25 casualties were reported, most of them were Peshmerga soldiers.  

This came in a time Iraq announced the end of the Global Coalition forces combat mission and restrict them to consultation and training by the end of this year.
