Northwest Syria witnesses shelling between government and opposition
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – The western countryside of Aleppo in the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria witnessed military escalation and exchange of shelling between the Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed opposition factions on Wednesday.
The opposition factions’ sites in the towns of Tedil, Kafr Amma, Kafr Ta’al, and Kafr Noran were bombed by the heavy artillery shelling of the government forces stationed in the Regiment 46, North Press reported military sources of the opposition.
The opposition factions’ sites near the town Ma’arat al-Na’san, north of Idlib, was also bombed, with no news reported on casualties, said the sources.
Meanwhile, al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room bombed the government forces’ sites near al-Sheikh Aqil in the western countryside of Aleppo with missiles and heavy artillery, according to the sources.
A person was reportedly killed yesterday, as a result of artillery shelling carried out by the Syrian government forces on the opposition factions’ sites in the town of Kafr Noran, west of Aleppo.
For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
