VDC-NSY documents 59 arrests in Syria’s Afrin during December
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – More than 59 people have been arrested since early December, in Afrin region, north Syria, Violations Documentation Center in Northern Syria (VDC-NSY) said.
Turkish forces and the Turkish-backed armed factions arrested about 59 people in Afrin and its countryside, in light of the Turkish ongoing violations including arresting and kidnapping civilians, the VDC-NSY stated in a report published yesterday.
“Rate of violence, arrest, kidnapping, bombing, murder, assassinations, and unidentified bodies in the Afrin region and, generally, in areas run by the Turkish forces in Syria’s north has increased,” the report added.
The VDC-NSY indicated that they documented the names of 686 people who were arrested, while the accurate number of arrestees is much more especially since there are names whose families refused to mention, in addition to cases that they were unable to access.
Since the Turkish forces and opposition factions took control of Afrin city, the center has documented the arrest of 7,433 people, where 1,098 people were tortured, 137 of them were killed, and about 5,100 were released, while the fate of the rest detainees is still unknown.
The city of Afrin and its villages, north of Aleppo, have been controlled by Turkish forces and the affiliated factions since March 2018.
