Turkey shells villages in Syria’s Aleppo countryside

ALEPPO NORTHERN COUNTRYSIDE, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday at dawn, Turkish artillery stationed in Azaz countryside targeted Tel Rifaat town and the surrounding villages in the northern countryside of Aleppo, north Syria.   

The Turkish artillery shelled the eastern part of Sheikh Issa village with four shells and two other shells fell on the town of Tel Rifaat, local sources told North Press.

Due to the Turkish bombardment, material losses were reported in a deserted house in the vicinity Sheikh Issa village in addition to causing panic to IDPs in the town, according to the sources.

On December 26, the Turkish forces targeted the outskirts of Sheikh Issa village with two shells reporting no losses.

The town of Tel Rifaat, which embraces a part of IDPs of Afrin, has been threatened with invasion by Turkey and its loyal factions since residents of Afrin fled their areas and headed towards the northern countryside of Aleppo amidst the successive shelling that the town is witnessing.

Syrian government forces accompanied by Russian forces are running the town of Tel Rifaat and its vicinities, where their posts have been deployed since 2018.
