Russia remarks why Syria not repelling Israeli last attack

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian government forces did not repel the airstrikes carried out by Israel on Latakia port because a Russian aircraft was  landing in the Khmeimim Air Base at the time of the attack, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.

Counter Admiral Oleg Vladimirovich Zhuravlyov, vice director of the Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria, said “Syrian air force did not intervene in an aerial fighting as an aircraft of the military transport aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces was landing down in Khmeimim base”.

Yesterday, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) targeted Latakia port in the Syrian coastal causing fires in the vicinity.

Videos posted to social media showed huge explosions and fires raging across the port.

Over the past years, Israel has launched hundreds of airstrikes on Syria targeting sites of Iran-allied factions most notably the Lebanese Hezbollah.

Israel rarely acknowledges carrying out any airstrikes in Syria. However, in a yearly report released in 2020, the IDF stated they targeted around 50 points in Syria. The report gave no further details.
