Child Protection Office in Syria’s Hasakah hands over minor to his family
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The co-chair of the Child Protection Office in Armed Conflicts in Hasakah, northeastern Syria, Khaled Jabr, said on Tuesday, they excluded a minor from the military forces.
“We continue to exclude children and minors who, during recent and past periods, joined the military forces. We are working, based on UN resolutions and international laws, to keep children away from military actions,” Jabr told North Press.
He indicated that they excluded the child Majid Khalil, 16, from the military forces, in cooperation with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), so that the child was handed over to his parents in the Shahba area in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
Jabr stated that they have excluded 216 children from Hasakah office since the office was established about 14 months ago, while the number of children excluded from all offices located in north and east Syria reached 621.
It should be known that the Child Protection Office follows up the receives complaints by children’s families and accordingly it communicates with the military units.
The Child Protection Office was activated in October 2020. This step came after an agreement signed by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander-in-Chief, Mazloum Abdi, with the United Nations to prevent the recruitment of underage children and their use as combatants in armed conflicts.
Since then, the SDF has been working to end minor’s being involved in military forces and disengage those currently engaged in.
