Dozens protest against government in Syria’s Suwayda

Suwayda, Syria (North press) – Dozens of the residents of Suwayda city, southern Syria, took to the streets yesterday, calling for detainees’ release.

The protesters shouted against the Syrian government and demanded the immediate release of the detainees, North Press reported local sources.

On December 10, Suwayda witnessed clashes between armed opposition group and government forces after the latter arrested an opposition activist.

The clashes led to the killing of a young man and the injury of three others, in addition to the injury of two members of the government forces, the sources added.

Following the incident, activists in Suwayda called, through social media, for a protest in front of the governorate building, but a small number participated due to a dense deployment of the security service.

A local faction in Suwayda issued a statement in which it threatened the government forces for revenge.
