Russian jets raid opposition sites in Syria’s northwest
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the Russian aircrafts bombed the Turkish-backed Syrian armed opposition-held areas in north of Idlib northwest Syria.
Russian warplanes conducted nine airstrikes on the opposition factions’ sites in the Sheikh Bahr area and the vicinity of the city of Ma’arat Misrin in the northern countryside of Idlib, opposition military sources told North Press.
The Russian airstrikes intensively targeted the opposition faction’ site in the bushes and agricultural fields connecting the two areas. The raids only caused material damage, according to the sources.
The sources reported that the Russian airstrikes coincided with the artillery shelling by the government forces of the opposition factions’ sites near the towns of Ma’arblit, Mantef and Harsh Benin in the Zawiya Mountain area in the southern countryside of Idlib.
One person was killed and three others were injured in the government shelling on Ma’arblit. The injured were taken to nearby medical points for treatment, according to the same sources.
Yesterday, the Russian jets conducted three airstrikes on the area between the city of Darat Izza, west of Aleppo, and the town of Termanin, north of Idlib, preceded by similar raids on the outskirts of the city of Ma’arat Misrin.
Over the past two days, the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria had enjoyed relative calm regarding the mutual bombing between the two sides of the conflict, after months of military escalation that has left dozens of dead and wounded so far.
