A hidden tunnel for “Cubs of the Caliphate” discovered in Syria’s Hawl Camp
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) discovered two days ago, a hidden tunnel used by minors of the ISIS “Cubs of the Caliphate” in a tent in Hawl Camp in northeast Syria.
“A hidden tunnel in a tent which was used by the cubs of the caliphate for training and escaping during security operations, was found by the Asayish forces,” a source of the Asayish told North Press.
“Minors, aged between 13 and 15 of different nationalities used to receive Sharia (religious) courses in that tent,” the source added.
The source pointed out that nine minors of Indonesian, Turkmenistan, French and Russian nationalities were arrested in the tent.
All the arrested minors will be sent to the Hori Center for children’s protection and education, which is in Tel Ma’rouf area, according to the source.
Hori Center, in the Tel Ma’rouf village in the countryside of Qamishli, is the first center dedicated for the rehabilitation of children who are victims of extremist ideology in northeastern Syria. It is home for a number of children formerly involved with ISIS members.
Hawl Camp houses about 15,650 families with total of 57,516 individuals including 8,049 Iraqi families and 5,153 Syrian ones.
Additionally, it includes about 2,448 families with an estimate of 8,245 individuals including women and children of detained and dead of foreign ISIS militants.
It is also known as a “ticking time bomb” due to the presence of extremists of ISIS wives and children, and tens of thousands of their supporters in a camp sometimes described as “the most dangerous camp in the world.”
