Hundreds of Iraqi residency bearers leave Syria’s northeast
QAMISHL;I, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday morning, hundreds of people, who bear Iraqi residency and stuck in areas of northeast Syria, flocked to Semalka (Faysh Khabur) border crossing in order to pass to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG).
Bearers of the Iraqi residency are allowed to enter the KRG region only through al-Walid crossing that links between Syria’s northeast and KRG region, according to Faysh Khabur crossing’s administration.
So far, no one of those stranded in the KRG have returned to areas in northeast Syria, an exclusive source of Semalka crossing told North Press.
Those stranded in the KRG are allowed to come back to northeast Syria tomorrow on Sunday.
On Friday, people bearing European residency and stranded in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES)-held areas were allowed to enter the KRG through al-Walid crossing, Semalka crossing said on Facebook account.
On December 15, the management of the Faysh Khabur border crossing in the KRG suspended the movement of transit and trade with the AANES-held areas in northeast Syria.
On Sunday, director of crossings of northeast Syria, Roudi Muhammad Amin, said, in a press conference, that no meetings have been held between the two parties of the crossing so far.
He noted that the crossing was closed by the management of Faysh Khabur crossing without notifying them officially about the reason for the closure, and the administration of the Semalka crossing did not close the crossing from its side.
