Tribes of northeast Syria call on international community to stop Turkish offensive
TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – Notables and representatives of tribes in the Jazira Region, northeast Syria, condemned on Thursday, the continuous Turkish offensive on the populated villages north of Hasakah, calling on the Global Coalition, the Russian Federation and the international community to put an end to what they described as “inhumane violations” against the region.
With the participation of dozens of dignitaries, representatives of tribes and administrative officials in civil institutions, a statement was delivered near the Russian base in al-Mabaqer station, close to the line of contact with the Turkish forces north of the town of Tel Tamr, regarding the two-day Turkish bombing of the area.
The statement condemned the Turkish offensive on the region, stressing that they are taking place without any justification.
The statement described the Turkish attacks as “tyranny, colonialism and terrorism,” although ceasefire agreements were signed with the guarantor parties.
“The Turkish threats are not new. They always try to displace our people from their villages and land,” Hussein al-Sada, representative of al-Sada tribes in Syria and Iraq, said in interview with North Press.
“They bombed our regions yesterday and the day before yesterday as well as the villages of Tel Tamr brutally and displaced our people, and unfortunately the opposition factions are Syrians,” he added.
Al-Sada addressed the Turkish-backed opposition factions saying: “What will your position be when you see women and children are killed by Turkish weapons that you use? What will you say to your families and children in the future?”
“We’ve come to the front lines to support our youths and people and say that we are on our land and will stay and defend it,” he stressed.
“Our land won’t be an easy game for the Turkish enemy and the military junta that kill and displace our people,” al-Sada noted, calling the people of the region to stand up to “this barbaric offensive.”
He also called on the Global Coalition that “it should protect the peoples of northeast Syria from this barbaric invasion that we are subject to now.”
For two days, the countryside of the towns of Abu Rasin and Tel Tamr has been heavily bombed by the Turkish forces and the affiliated armed opposition factions, which resulted in the killing of four civilians and the injury of about 20 others, including children and the elderly.
The infrastructure and civilians’ houses in the villages located on the front lines were massively damaged by the Turkish bombardment.
