Government, opposition resume mutual bombing in Syria’s northwest

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Following relative calm that lasted for a few days, the de-escalation zone in Idlib, northwest Syria, witnessed on Wednesday renewed exchange of shelling between Turkish-backed opposition factions and Syrian government forces.

North Press reported opposition sources as saying the government forces used the heavy artillery and missiles in bombing the opposition factions’ sites in the villages of Fatterah and Sfuhen, as well as the outskirts of the town of Kasanfra in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib.

The bombardment, which coincided with intensive flying of Russian drones over the area, caused material damage, the sources added.

The opposition factions, in turn, targeted the positions of the Syrian government forces’ sites in Milajah and al-Bureij near the city of Kafr Nabl, south of Idlib, with mortars, according to the sources.

A child was killed and his father was injured in the bombing of the town of Kasanfra in Zawiya Mountain, local sources told North Press.

Over the past two days, the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria had enjoyed relative calm regarding the mutual bombing between the two sides of the conflict, after months of military escalation that has left dozens of dead and wounded so far.
