ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – On Tuesday, high-ranking Iraqi security officials arrived in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to oversee the withdrawal of US-led combat forces from the region.
The delegation included the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, the head of the National Security Apparatus, a representative of the National Security Adviser, and the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army for Operations Affairs.
Erbil houses American sites in the vicinity of its international airport and the Harir Air Base near Erbil.
The visit was to oversee the procedures and details of the withdrawal of the Global Coalition forces to Defeat ISIS, the spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Yahiya Rasoul, said in a statement.
On December 19, a high-ranking Iraqi security delegation visited Ayn al-Asad Air Base in Anbar governorate for the same purpose.
The Iraqi Military Technical Committee completed all the procedures related to the withdrawal of the US-led coalition forces during its visit to Anbar, Rasoul added.
The start of receiving the technical mechanisms and devices will be followed-up through the visits.
On December 9, Iraqi National Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji announced the end of the combat mission in Iraq and the withdrawal of the US-led coalition forces from the country.
Over the past months, a series of discussions were held between Iraq and the US related the strategic framework and a decision was reached on withdrawal the American forces by next year.
