WASHINGTON, US (North Press) – A federal court dropped yesterday, an indictment accusing dual American-Bosnian national Mirsad Hariz Ramik of providing material aid to the Islamic State Organization (ISIS).
Mirsad Hariz Ramik, 31, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, has been charged with providing material aid to ISIS, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said.
The DOJ added that the defendant was also accused of receiving military-type training from ISIS.
Ramik then bought three tickets to fly to the Turkish city of Gaziantep, near the border with Syria. From there it is alleged that he crossed the border to join ISIS.
The DOJ pointed out that after joining, Ramik reportedly attended an ISIS training camp, where he received weapons and physical training and fired an AK-47.
The DOJ noted the FBI obtained photographs of Ramik in ISIS territory, showing him dressed in camouflage clothing and standing in front of a pickup truck with an anti-aircraft gun and an ISIS flag.
According to the DOJ, after joining the terrorist group, Ramik and his co-conspirators kept in touch with each other and, among other things, Ramik’s presence in Raqqa, north Syria, and an anti-aircraft weapon to shoot at planes, with two people he traveled with.. They also reportedly discussed jihad, martyrdom and the fight for ISIS.
The DOJ indicated, if convicted of the charged crimes, Ramik faces a maximum term of 50 years in prison, a $750,000 fine, and up to life in supervised release.
