ISIS kills members of Iranian-backed faction in Syria’s Badia
PALMYRA, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, members of the Iranian-backed militias were killed and wounded in an attack launched by the militants of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) on their sites in Syrian Badia.
ISIS conducted a violent attack on a military point of the Iranian-backed Liwa Fatemiyoun near Dabiyat oil field south of the town of Sukhnah in the eastern countryside of Homs, a military source of Liwa Fatemiyoun told North Press.
The attack resulted in five dead and more than eight wounded. The wounds were transported to the military hospital in Palmyra, central Syria, according to the source.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added that “ISIS seized the point and confiscated all the weapons in it, after which it fired rocket-propelled grenades targeting an armored vehicle of the Iranian factions inside Dabiyat oil field, damaging it and killing two members inside.”
ISIS militants then headed towards the Palmyra desert with the weapons they confiscated.
Large areas of the Syrian Badia are controlled by the Iranian-backed militias, and they have recently witnessed several confrontations, the fiercest between ISIS and government forces along with Iranian-backed factions.
On December 19, three members of Iranian-backed militias were killed and more than ten others were wounded in an attack by ISIS on oil fields west of Deir ez-Zor.
Iranian-backed factions and government forces have controlled large areas of Deir ez-Zor since the expulsion of ISIS militants in late 2017.
