ISIS kills, wounds members of Iranian-backed militias in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Three members of Iranian-backed militias were killed and more than ten others were wounded on Sunday in an attack by the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) on oil fields west of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.

ISIS militants attacked several points of the Iranian-backed Petroleum Facilities Guard of Liwa al-Baqir near the al-Kharata oil field, southwest of Deir ez-Zor, with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades, North Press reported a government military source.

According to what the source, said three members were killed and more than ten others were wounded.

The gunmen were wearing ISIS clothes and raising ISIS banners. The clash lasted for more than an hour, after which the attackers withdrew towards the depth of the desert, the source, who declined to be named, added.

Following the attack, the government forces and Liwa al-Baqir brought in great reinforcements to the site of the incident accompanied by the warplanes to comb the area.

Iranian-backed factions and government forces have controlled large areas of Deir ez-Zor since the expulsion of ISIS militants in late 2017.

Two days ago, four members of the Iranian Revolutionary Corps Guard were killed and five others were wounded in an attack by unknown gunmen on their military points south of Palmyra, east Syria.
